Fall Protection
When working at heights above ground level or depths more than 1 meter below ground, fall protection equipment is essential to eliminate risks caused by differences in elevation and forced or unusual body positions. The following fall protection systems provide reliable safety:
- Full body harnesses (primary and secondary)
- Work positioning belts
- Climbing devices and spurs
- Retractable and guided type fall arresters,
- or their combinations,
- Securing ropes attached to them
- Fall arresters and equipment for use in underground work
Among all types of personal protective equipment, fall protection holds special importance due to its direct life-saving function. It is therefore critical to select only equipment that clearly displays:
- A warning that repairs may only be carried out by the manufacturer or an authorized specialist with the necessary training and expertise
- Manufacturing identifiers, including serial or batch numbers to ensure product traceability
It is the employer’s responsibility to ensure fall protection equipment is only used if:
- A “Registration and Inspection Log” is maintained for every device and rope
- All required periodic inspections are completed and documented
- The necessary personal qualifications and health conditions are met
- Regular practice sessions have been carried out
- A visual inspection is conducted before use
- Environmental and supervisory conditions are fully in place (weather, site management)
