Workwear

In protective workwear, we strive to balance safety and comfort. It is not only important that the garments be functional and meet – or in some justified cases even exceed – the required protection levels, but also that our employees can carry out their tasks in comfortable and even stylish clothing.

Antistatic clothing

The severity of accidents caused by electrostatic discharges can be reduced with appropriate protective clothing and equipment. Antistatic garments are made of electrically conductive materials. To achieve this, conductive fibers such as carbon, silver, copper, stainless steel, or metallic salts are integrated into the fabric. These fibers safely collect and discharge static electricity, ensuring permanent protection that does not wash out.

Antistatic protective clothing is recommended in situations where the potential explosion (ignition) risk is low enough that additional heat and flame protection is not required. Applications include fine mechanical and electronic assembly plants, oil refineries, pharmaceutical factories, agricultural facilities, and more.

Heat and flame-resistant clothing

These garments provide protection against flames as well as various heat sources (radiant and convective).

Flame-resistant clothing

Made primarily from 100% cotton or blended fabrics, flame-retardant workwear gains its protective properties through special finishing treatments. Flame-retardant clothing is suitable for environments where limited flammability provides sufficient protection. However, these garments are not designed to protect against intense or prolonged exposure to flames.

Typical applications include:

Protection against aluminum splash

The development of specialized materials and clothing aims to provide protection in fields with unique requirements. One example is Vinex, a Vinylal/Polynosic-based material, designed for two-piece garments that protect against molten aluminum splashes.

NOMEX®

Nomex® fibers are widely used in fabrics designed for protection against heat and chemicals, such as firefighter turnout gear, racing suits, aviation apparel, and clothing for workers in hazardous industrial environments.

Garments made from Nomex® provide valuable escape time in the event of fire, explosion, or electric arc, reducing the severity of burns, improving survival chances, and offering lasting comfort with a professional appearance across multiple wear cycles. Nomex® fabrics are inherently heat-, flame-, and chemical-resistant, while also featuring high tensile strength, abrasion resistance, and durability – ensuring long service life and cost-effectiveness.

The material does not burn, melt, or drip. It is self-extinguishing, begins to carbonize at 380°C, and does not generate toxic gases or smoke under heat or flame exposure. Blending Nomex® with P-104 fibers provides permanent antistatic properties.

Chemically, Nomex® is an aramid (aromatic polyamide) fiber. Its protective performance is inherent in the molecular structure of the fiber, not in surface treatments, meaning its protection is constant and guaranteed.

Nomex® Garments / Nomex® Quality Program

The highest level of heat and flame protection is provided by inherently flame-resistant fabrics, as their protective qualities remain unchanged throughout the garment’s life cycle. Nomex® is the most widely used fiber in thermal protection globally. Since garment design is just as important as material selection, DuPont® has introduced the extensive Nomex® Partner Program.

Vektor Safety Ltd. is the only Hungarian member of the DuPont Nomex® Partner Program, specializing in the development and production of flame-resistant protective clothing.

The DUPONT Nomex® PARTNER program (DNP) is a kind of guarantee that assures our partners of the quality of garments, from fiber production to the finished product. Garments certified under this program bear the DuPONT Nomex® PARTNER quality label. These labels can be general labels that indicate that the product was made using DNP raw materials. In addition, if the product has undergone Thermo Man (heat and flame resistance) or Arc Man (arc flash protection) testing, this can also be indicated.

Thermo-Man® test

As part of the DuPONT Nomex® Partner program, we conduct burn tests on every piece of flame-resistant clothing to demonstrate the protective capabilities of the developed product.

The 122 life-size dummies equipped with heat sensors used in the test mimic the temperature of human skin. The flame effect is provided by 12 propane gas burners, with an exposure time of 0.5-25.0 s. (heat flux: 2.0 cal/cm2/s = 84 kW/m2)

After the burn, we receive information about the percentage of second- and third-degree burns, the extent of the total burn injury, the exact location of the burns, and the afterburn time.

All flame-resistant clothing that complies with the relevant standard specifications and the Thermo-Man® test, or is manufactured by DNP from NDP raw materials, also receives the Thermo-Man® label, indicating guaranteed quality.

Arc Flash Protection

Special types of clothing made from flame-resistant materials also provide protection against electric shock. The primary purpose of arc and flame-resistant protective clothing is to protect people working in or near live electrical equipment from sudden, high-temperature heat effects caused by electrical arcs resulting from malfunctions. They also provide adequate protection against direct heat and flame exposure for boiler operators and in areas where the combined effects of contact heat and radiant heat are present.

Our flame-resistant protective clothing is made from 100% cotton fabric with a flame-retardant finish, flame-resistant Nomex® Comfort and other flame-resistant fibers.
